You may have heard the Brahms C Major Piano Trio before, but have you experienced it through the mindfulness-based performance of the Bodhi Trio? The evening starts with a relaxing, intimate, gourmet dinner with other like-minded music lovers in a wonderful home in Northwest Portland. Then violinist Kevin Lefohn, cellist David Eby, and pianist Kira Whiting offer a musical experience like no other. The Bodhi Trio pioneers Mindfulness-Based performance. Throughout their dynamic interpretations, the trio invites its audiences to experience stillness of mind and calmness of breath and heart.

Kevin A. Lefohn, violin

Hailed as a “barnstorming violin exponent” (Flying Inkpot, Singapore), violinist Kevin A. Lefohn maintains an international career as recital soloist, chamber musician, and pedagogue. His performance and teaching have earned prominence, with performances, workshops, and masterclasses presented throughout Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the United States, and South East Asia. He studied with Dorothy DeLay, Piotr Milewski, and Kurt Sassmannshaus at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, Kathryn Lucktenberg at the University of Oregon, and with members of both the Emerson and the Tokyo String Quartets. He is a National Recording Artist for Radio New Zealand Concert and has frequently performed on Thursdays at Three, All Classical Portland’s live performance radio show. He was the founding director of the renowned Marama Strings Project at the University of Otago where he was Professor of Violin from 1998-2007 and founder and Artistic Director of the Queenstown Violin Summer School and Festival of Chamber Music (New Zealand). He currently holds faculty teaching positions at the University of Portland and Pacific University.

David Eby, cello

David Eby, founding cellist for the internationally acclaimed band, Pink Martini, has an active performing and teaching career on the West Coast. He studied at the Eastman School of Music and received the Performer’s Certificate and BM degree under the tutelage of Paul Katz of the Cleveland Quartet. He had the great privilege of studying under Janos Starker at Indiana University, where he received his MM degree. He was the Principal Cellist of the Evansville Philharmonic and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestras, and founding cellist for the Evansville String Quartet. He performs with the Oregon Symphony and teaches at Lewis & Clark College, Oregon Episcopal School, and Lake Oswego School District.

Kira Whiting, piano

Currently based in Portland, Oregon, collaborative pianist Kira Whiting graduated from Manhattan School of Music in May 2014 with a Master’s in Classical Accompanying with a Vocal Emphasis. Ms. Whiting has participated in masterclasses with Thomas Quasthoff, Martin Katz, Thomas Hampson, Craig Rutenberg, and Roger Vignoles. She has performed several art song recitals in Scandinavia, including a program of American art songs with Norwegian soprano Margrethe Fredheim for a balcony concert at the Oslo Opera House. Ms. Whiting was a semi-finalist in collaboration with Dashon Burton, Bass-Baritone, at the Wigmore Hall International Art Song Competition 2015 in London, UK.
